Without Unit Leaders we are not able to offer girls and young women in Bath the many wonderful opportunities available within the Guiding programme. Leaders are unpaid, trained volunteers who give some of their free time to be part of the leadership team that runs a unit.

Adults with responsibility for unit meetings receive the training and support required to safely run the activities for the girls via the Girlguiding UK Leadership Qualification.

We need your help! Can you spare the time to make a difference?

In 2003, there were over 50,000 girls waiting to join units across the UK. Girlguiding UK launched "Project 50K" to recruit more adults into flexible leadership roles, with the aim of giving every girl that wants it, the opportunity to take part in the Guiding adventure. Within Bath, there are many girls waiting to join units too.

We would also value your help in a support role if you are unable to commit to helping with a unit, perhaps you have experience in admin or PR, or could help run the Guide shop. Whilst men cannot become Unit Leaders, they can make valuable contributions in roles such as Unit Helpers or Advisors.

Each new leader has a mentor to help them through the Leadership Qualification. Most aspects are completed during unit meetings, but the mentor will advise on any other appropriate trainings. Optional training schemes for outdoor activities, overnight licences, catering and first aid are all available too. We particularly welcome volunteers as Advisors or Unit Helpers who have nationally recognised qualifications in all kinds of areas from abseilling to Tai Chi, from canoeing to kung fu!

Further information on becoming a leader can be found on the GirlguidingUK website. If you would like to discuss opportunities in the Bath Division then please contact Girlguiding UK and a representative will be in touch.
