Bath Division Leaders visit Our Cabana :
Bath Division
Over Easter a group of 16 adult leaders from Bath went to Cuernavaca, Mexico to stay at Our Cabana, one of the four World Guide Centres. Also staying at the centre during our stay were Guiders and girls from the United States, Mexico, El Salvador and Costa Rica. The visit partly involved learning about the activities of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) linked to the Millennium Development Goals and gathering programme ideas to use at our meetings in the UK.
Another aspect of the visit involved finding out more about the Mexican culture and crafts, with a salsa evening and opportunity to try amate painting on thin pieces of bark. The final aspect was sight seeing with visits to Taxco, a town famous for it’s silver and the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon at Teotihuacan.

Bath Christmas Market:
Bath Division
Each year, one of the Bath Christmas Market Chalets is available for selected charities to use exclusively for one day to raise funds and promote awareness of the charity. Bath Division was delighted to be given the chance to have the chalet for a day as part of the Centenary Celebrations. A selection of Girlguiding gift items were on offer and the day started well with the chalet being decorated with lights and tinsel. Teams of leaders ran the stall and visitors from all parts of the UK came to say hello and many bought Bath Division Standard Badges as a souvenir. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t crisp and sunny as we would have wished but that did not dampen our spirits!

Centenary Launch Party:
Bath Division
Girlguiding Bath Division held its Centenary Launch Party on Saturday 5th September at Bath Racecourse. Over 500 current members and 350 guests who had previously been members came along. This was a huge undertaking for the Division, involving many months of planning but it really was a once in a lifetime opportunity for us all to get together to celebrate such a remarkable event.
On arrival the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Senior Section members joined five coloured groups and received their matching colour party bag, containing the Greatest Adventure booklet. Leaders, Trefoil Guild members and adult guests received blue or red bags and a souvenir booklet.
On offer to the girls were age-based activities in five zones:
Adventure: Pioneering, Bouncy Castle, Giant Games and Inflatable Obstacle course
Music/Dance: Drumming Worksop and Campfire Singing
Heritage: ‘Cinema’ for viewing the Girlguiding UK Launch Party, a timeline, old uniforms and a ‘what was it used for’ picture quiz.
Creativity: Head Dresses and Spoon Pals for Rainbows and Brownies, Bead Brooches, Bookworms and Pot Pourri for Guides and above and card making for all.
Common Threads: Memory Wall, putting a stitch or two into a Centenary Banner,
a shopping opportunity and a re-join us point.
We were fortunate that Gill Slocombe, our Region Chief Commissioner was able to visit and cut the celebration cake, which had been made by local chef Martin Blunos. We are delighted that the Mayor of Bath could also join us and had time to tour the site.
We were not deterred by the weather from finishing our event with ‘campfire’ singing, albeit inside our very large marquees sheltering from the rain rather than on the grass in the sunshine. We hope the following pictures give you a flavour of the event and the fun you can have as part of Girlguiding Bath Division.

90 Years of the Senior Section:
South East District Senior Section
This year, we are doing 90 challenges to represent the 90 years of the Senior Section. Senior Section is the section of Girlguiding UK for young women aged 14 to 26, including Rangers, Young Leaders and younger Guiders. Trelawney Rangers are the only Ranger group in Bath and would love to have 90 members! We meet on a Friday night from 7-9pm and do lots of fun activities including archery, dry slope skiing, cooking, talking and eating lots of chocolate/biscuits!
We plan and organise our own evenings, which sounds hard but it is really useful to learn new skills giving each member equal responsibility.
Our meetings are a lot less formal than Guides. We are more relaxed and easy going which gives a friendly environment. This is reflected in that we don't wear uniform, except on special occaisions, and we often sit around, have a laugh and tell jokes.
Rangers offers a range of opportunities such as First Aid, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, Leadership, International Experiences and lots more.
To contact us, please use our online contact form. Hope to see you soon!
