Prize Winners Visit Bristol Zoo: 1st Bath (St Luke's) Rainbows

On Saturday 8th November 1st Bath (St Luke’s) Rainbows went to Bristol Zoo. The trip was our prize for winning the Scrapheap Challenge Competition.

We went to visit lots of animals – the lions, the lemurs, the Gorillas, the hippopotamus, the kangaroo rats, the meerkats, the fish, the crocodiles the hamsters, the flamingos and the frogs. We saw rats in a house; they were in the oven, in a glass cake box and in the suitcases.

We played on the playground. We had our faces painted by Jasper. We had a photo taken all together then we went to the shop and bought things.
We had a lovely time, it was great fun.

Christmas at Ascension: 21st Ascension Guides

As Christmas arrives the Guides at Ascension Church Bath have been celebrating by making mince pies as you can see a good time was had by all!

We also spent an evening discussing the Christmas story with the aid of a Posada which was travelling around the Parish spending every night of Advent at a different house! Posada is an old Mexican tradition where young people dressed as Mary and Joseph travelled from house to house asking for a room for the night and telling people about the imminent arrival of Jesus in the weeks leading up to Christmas. On Christmas Eve they would visit the local church to re-enact the nativity and place figures of Mary and Joseph in a crib.

Modern day Posada uses nativity figures of Mary and Joseph who travel from place to place. This gives each host the chance to create their own celebration in their home or place in the community, worshipping and reaching out to their communities with the real message of Christmas.

After we had built the Nativity Scene we then went on to reinact the story with Mary heavy with child
