Bathford Guides: report on a recent weekend in London!:
50th Bath Guides
First we arrived at Bath Spa Station and got the train to Paddington, the train ride was 1hr 30mins. When we arrived in London we walked through Hyde Park, St James Park and Green Park. When we were walking through the parks we saw lots of horses and Meg chased the ducks and pigeons! Also it was fun to see people skating in the road with poles. When we stopped for a break, because it was Mrs Wright's birthday, she gave us some birthday cake that she had been carrying! Then we walked onto Buckingham palace which was great as they were changing the guards, while some of the guards were playing in a brass band. However, there were people everywhere so we had to link arms or hold onto each other because we didn't want to get lost!
Anyway, we then walked to the London Eye where there was a massive queue, but we only had to wait about ten minutes which wasn't too bad. However, one Guide thought it took half an hour but she still said, "It was worth it, you could see loads of London and we took some really good pictures". We then ate lunch on a bench and walked to the Tate Modern and had a quick look at the 'crack' all along the floor which was part of an exhibition we also had a hot chocolate to warm ourselves up. We then walked to Tower Bridge and went up inside which was really great, it was turning dark but it was fun because there were loads of lights and again there were really good views. When we came down we heard that the bridge was going to raise for a ship so we managed to see the bridge moving.
We were very pleased to hear that we were going to be eating dinner at Nandos, it was delicious and as it was Mrs Wright's birthday we sang to her during dinner. We then got the tube and finally it was a short walk to the Youth Hostel where we had hot chocolate and more birthday cake before making cards by 'quilling' and then to bed!
On Sunday we woke up at 7am, went down to breakfast and then got the tube to the Science museum which was great fun, we did everything, some things we did twice! We had lunch in the café , then a few more activities, but unfortunately we couldn't look round all of it because we took too long looking at all of the fantastic exhibitions that we liked the most. We then got the tube back to Paddington where we had tea, before we took the train back to Bath. We would definitely go again!
Note: we walked eight and a half miles on Saturday!!!!
