Coming to Bath as a Student?:
Bath Division
Girlguiding Bath welcomes student volunteers who are coming to study at the University of Bath, Bath Spa University or Norland College. Whether you have been involved in Guiding before or are looing for a new opportunity, here for the first time or coming back for your second year, will will be pleased to hear from you. Contact us.
We have an active community of student guiders and they have a voice on our Division Executive Committee via an annually appointed student rep. If you have been involved in Guiding before, it is helpful to bring your paperwork including membership details, CRB date and ALS information with you - but if you can't find it, don't worry. Both universities also have active SSAGO clubs too!

Youth Hostel Weekend at Lynton:
Bath Division
On the 28th September, I packed my bag ready to set off for Lynton and Lynmouth. We were going to stay at a youth hostel in Devon, with a mixture of Brownies and Guides, which are both clubs for girls. We finally arrived there on the coach, after several long hours of sitting still. It was very late and dark, and we had to walk up a short hill with only the light of the youth hostel to guide us. After some games and drinks, everyone climbed the stairs to their dormitories, where we would be sleeping. We climbed in our beds and went to sleep, ready for a busy day ahead. In the morning, we got up out of our beds for breakfast. We had to have a filling one, as we had a long walk ahead. When we were ready, we walked along to Lynton, and then down to Lynmouth, where everyone went on a walk up Glenn Lyn Gorge. Next we had a packed lunch. Then, we wandered down to a little building, where we each did a brass-rubbing. Next we went shopping, to buy stuff for ourselves and our families. Finally, after an action-packed day, everyone caught a cable railway back to Lynton and walked the rest of the way back to our youth hostel. After dinner, we had a quiz about the history of Brownies and Guides. Then we did exciting challenges, making things and doing activities. After that, we did some singing. Next everyone had a hot drink and went to bed. Sunday greeted us bright and early, and I packed my bag sadly. We had a yummy breakfast of croissants and juice, and we said a big goodbye to the youth hostel, which now seemed like our home. Everyone was upset even though we'd been missing our family lots! We clambered onto the coach and sat down. Halfway home, we visited a Rural Life Museum in Glastonbury. There were lots of interesting things and there was also a shop where everyone bought their final souvenirs. Then, we all scrambled onto the coach for a last time. It carried us all the way back to Bath where we met our parents again. The Lynton and Lynmouth youth hostel weekend was really fun, but I'm glad to be back!

Visit to Slimbridge:
District
Brownies and their Guiders from Bath South District recently enjoyed a trip to Slimbridge Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust. On arrival the girls weremet by the Educational Officer who explained the format for
the day. The day started with a talk about wetlands, frogs, toads and newts with some 'hands on' experience (which not everyone enjoyed - particularly some of the guiders!). A tour of the grounds followed with detailed explanations on the birds given by one of the resident experts. As the girls fed the birds they kept their eyes open for all sorts of species in order to complete the workbooks they had been
given by Slimbridge. Lunch was eaten in one of the bird hides with a view across one of the large ponds where the Brownies enjoyed watching a whole host of birds eat their lunch too! After a short 'let off steam' session in the park the girls made bird feeders and
reflective bands, in a variety of shapes, for their bags and the afternoon concluded with some parachute games outside. The whole day was extremely well organised by Slimbridge and all (both Brownies and Guiders) thoroughly enjoyed themselves in the Autumn sunshine. Pictures from the day can be found here.
