Local Guides Reach for the Stars!: Girlguiding UK

On Saturday 22 October 2005, Guides from units in Bathford, Bathampton and Weston screamed their hearts out at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre. They saw their favourite pop stars including Girls Aloud, Rachel Stevens, Liz McClarnon and everyone's favourite - Tony Christie perform exclusively for them and 26,999 other Guides from across the UK.

The seventh Big Gig was the second to hold two concerts in one day enabling twice as many Guides to see their favourite pop idols. The screaming girls welcomed a fantastic line-up which also included: ex-Blue members Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe, and newly solo artists Jo O'Meara from S-Club 7 and Jenny Frost from Atomic Kitten.

As Marilyn Wright said: "It was a fantastic event, not just for the girls but for us adults too. Guiding always keeps me young! The atmosphere was unbelievable and seeing thousands of girls having this much fun makes being a part of Guiding so worthwhile."

Jessica, a Guide, said: "The concert was amazing. I was so excited when I saw Friday Hill come on stage. It was the best day ever and one I'll never forget"

Culture Vultures!: 33rd St Bartholomews Brownies

Culture Vultures! In October, 33rd St Barts decided to work towards their Culture badge. Girls investigated their family trees and the history of the pack. They cooked a traditional dish and read poems. Each girl also brought in a box filled with objects that represented their daily lives. There were pictures of pets, friends and family, toys, items representing school or hobbies.

Ted's Big Do Without: Bath Division

As part of the Forever Friends appeal, units across Bath "Did Without" to raise funds for the Royal United Hospital. The appeal aims to raise funds for the "heart" of the hospital - in addition to state of the art equipment, funds are used for the Non-Denominational Chapel. Individual units chose what they would do without and were sponsored. Some units used the teddy bear theme for the evenings activities.
Further information on the Forever Friends Appeal can be found on their website.
