WAGs Away - again!: Bath Division

We've just returned from our weekend at Kinver Scout Camp in Staffordshire. It was a great success but we were pleased that we were sleeping inside rather than camping, as we woke up to snow on Sunday morning – great for making snowballs and snowmen before breakfast but rather chilly if we had been under canvas!

We took part in a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities. We had to conquer our fear of heights when crate stacking (don't worry we were wearing a harness, so no broken bones when they all came tumbling down!), and we had to improve our sense of direction while orienteering and doing archery!

In the evenings we had a variety of craft sessions run by the new Guide Leaders. There was glass painting, crocheting, fabric painting and making bead brooches.

There is a great place to have a campfire at Kinver which is partially undercover and we learnt some new songs (that were hardly rude at all!).

It was a great opportunity for older Guides, Young Leaders and Rangers to meet up and have fun and we’re very grateful to the new Guide Leaders who helped to organise the event.

Guides Baden-Powell Challenge Weekend in Bath “Broaden your Horizons”: Somerset North

20 girls from across Somerset North came to Bath Guide HQ for a challenging weekend in April to celebrate completing this top award in the Guide section.
To start the weekend off, Helen and Hollie, our International Advisers, ran a session of international craft and food sampling. Next was lunch of different cheeses, salads and breads. The Rangers from Bath had made and iced a celebration cake, which they brought for us to share as part of our lunch.
After lunch the girls went out in groups of four to find all the charity shops in Bath! They had to match these to pictures the organisers had taken previously. They also had to purchase items from the charity shops to illustrate a country of their choice in a presentation they had to make that evening.
Light relief was provided by a game of Adventure Golf in Victoria Park. At 6pm we went next door to the Italian restaurant “Aqua” for dinner. Although most of the girls stuck to tried and tested food some were more adventurous. Next were the presentations. A variety of items had been bought, representing Canada, England, Japan, India and Africa.
All the Guides “slept” in the big room with the added excitement of a fight breaking out on the street below! After the ambulance had departed at 2am the girls settled down.
Everybody was up early, either for a swim and shower or a short walk, before breakfast. This was followed by craft and lunch.
The weekend was rounded off with a trip up the river Avon on the top deck of the boat in glorious sunshine.

Congratulations to the Guides on finishing their BP Awards and thank you to the leaders for organising the weekend.
