WAGs Away!:
Bath Division
In June last year we entered a competition sponsored by GWR (Bristol) and the V Project set up to help local groups and charities to encourage more young people to become volunteers. It was quite a lot of hard work putting together our proposal but well worth it as we won a grant worth over £6000!
This is how WAGs was born. WAGs stands for Weekends Away with Guides and our very first weekend away was at the beginning of February. The original team of five young Guide Leaders who set up the project, along with a group of ten new volunteers travelled to the Brecon Beacons for an intensive training weekend. We took part in team building exercises, archery and climbing. Our new volunteers learned lots of new skills and gained valuable experience in what it is like to organise a weekend away for Guides.
We were so lucky. We had fantastic weather and we all had a great time. We all look forward to the next phase of the project which is to take a group of Guides away for a similar activity weekend at the beginning of April. We have booked the accommodation, planned the activities and drawn up a menu – the only thing we haven’t been able to book is the weather!
So watch this space and we will write and tell you how we get on. I am sure it will be fun and exciting adventure for us all!
